Back by popular demand, this talk will feature new romances and personal stories, as well as showcasing emotive historical artifacts, images and letters from State Library’s collections. Join us at Anzac Square Memorial Galleries as we explore: the beauty and sentiment of love letters exchanged between Queensland soldiers and their sweethearts the vast impact on social customs and relationship practices, including swifter courtships, marriages of convenience, the emergence of war brides and the sorrow of war widows the tragic tale of World War II dambuster Charles Rowland Williams and his English fiancé, Bobby. After the talk, visitors can stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from the First World War to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.
