The Wetlands by Paper Hands

Enjoy the display 'The Wetlands', by local artist Paper Hands, at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre as part of the Community Art Wall. Paper Hands (Holly Nielson) is a Brisbane-based illustrator. She finds that "… art is a way for me to communicate, reflect and dance with this weird and wonderful life. My artwork is often exploring the power of regeneration, through the connection of nature and the individual." 'The Wetlands' was inspired by the natural beauty of the Boondall Wetlands, a unique and significant nature reserve which encapsulates more than 1000 hectares of tidal flats, mangroves, saltmarsh, hypersaline and grassland flats, casuarinas, melaleuca, eucalypt and rainforest plants. This ongoing display can be viewed from May to September: Tuesday to Friday, 9am-4pmSaturday and Sunday, 9am-12pm.About the Community Art Wall: Located in the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, the Community Art Wall is a small, ongoing display which aims to celebrate and promote environmental awareness through art by featuring work from local artists and community groups that reflect environmental themes such as sustainability, biodiversity and connection to nature. Queensland artist Martin Edge brings his playful, joy‑filled world to the Fairfax Gallery for his Artist in Residence project. Known for his vibrant scenes inspired by everyday life, from seaside moments and city adventures to his much‑loved CityCat journeys, Edge blends memory and imagination into colourful, whimsical compositions. Across three weeks, Edge will create a large‑scale mural directly onto the gallery walls, offering visitors a rare opportunity to watch his process in action and chat with him as the work evolves. Featuring bright colours, bold geometric forms and iconic Brisbane landmarks, the finished artwork will present two lively scenes of Brisbane City in Edge’s distinctive style. Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Repetition, rhythm and thoughtful details invite you to slow down, look closely and discover new perspectives. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Follow the mermaid in the bay. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Come and be immersed in a space that celebrates care for land, sea and story. MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC. Discover the hidden secrets of your heritage-listed City Hall building with a guided tour of Brisbane’s iconic Clock Tower. The Clock Tower Tour is a “must do” while in Brisbane! For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Cosmic Collisions was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science; GOTO INC, Tokyo, Japan; and the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum. Cosmic Collisions was created by the American Museum of Natural History with the major support and partnership of NASA, Science Mission Directorate, Heliophysics Division.

Drawn Together: Help Make Hospital Feel More Like Home

Drawings of home created by Queenslanders from Mackay to Warwick, by children receiving care at Queensland Childrens Hospital, and everywhere in between, will light up Brisbane Powerhouse this June, transforming the iconic riverside landmark into a powerful public portrait of support for the states sickest children. Led by Childrens Hospital Foundation, the statewide Drawn Together: Help Make Hospital Feel More Like Home community art project invites Queenslanders to share what home means to them, with selected artworks projected nightly onto Brisbane Powerhouse from 9 to 14 June 2026. The large-scale projection will feature contributions from regional communities, families and children in hospital alongside works from leading Australian artists including First Nations Artist Tori-Jay Mordey, and Nick Caldwell creating a collective portrait of Queensland and the places people call home. Community are encouraged to visit the projection throughout the week and reflect on what home means to them, and how they can help ensure every child has every chance to thrive.

Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond.
