Our Journey - World Refugee Day Celebration
Multicultural Australia’s Our Journey: World Refugee Day Celebration brings refugees stories to the fore with a screening of Io Capitano (2023). Io Capitano follows the perilous journey of two teenage boys from Senegal who dream of a better life in Europe and set out across the desert and sea. Their odyssey confronts them with the brutal realities of migration, including exploitation, violence, and survival against the odds. The film is a gripping and humanising portrayal of resilience, hope, and the cost of chasing freedom. About the Film: IO CAPITANO (ME CAPTAIN) tells the adventurous journey of two young men, Seydou and Moussa, who leave Dakar to reach Europe. A contemporary Odyssey through the pitfalls of the desert, the horrors of detention centres in Libya and the dangers of the sea.

DragSpeare: Drag Kings Do Shakespeare
Five drag kings on their Queensland tour take on Shakespeare with stupidity, spoof, and sincerity, smashing iconic songs against the Bard in a bold new high-energy cabaret. What will you collect? Welcome to Micro Museum – a space for telling stories through objects. You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own.

Understory by Rachel Apelt
Be drawn into a dialogue with nature through Rachel Apelt’s Understory. Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creek lines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creek line regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade. Understory is open now until 22 June 2025 at the Boondall Wetland Environment Centre. Open hours: Tuesday - Friday 9am - 4pm Saturday - Sunday 9am - 12pm

135th Members Annual Art Exhibition
This June, the 135th RQAS Brisbane Branch Members Annual exhibition will be on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery! For this exhibition, members were invited to submit works in their own unique style and media across seven different sections. This year the exhibition will be split into two exhibitions that will run for three weeks each. From Thursday, 5th of June until Sunday, 22nd of June, section 1 (Oil and Acrylic paintings) and section 4 (sculpture) will be on display at Petrie Terrace Gallery. Then, from Thursday, 26th of June until Sunday, 13th of July, all other sections (2: Watercolour, 3: Photography/Digital art, 5: Drawing, 6: 2D Artworks, and 7: Pastels) will be exhibited. We will also be hosting two awards night: - Paintings and Sculpture - Awards Night: Thursday, 5th of June at 7pm - A Mix of Media - Awards Night: Friday, 27th of June at 7pm We look forward to seeing you in the gallery! Grow it, Cook it, Compost it
Learn how to produce a sustainable backyard garden and cook nutritious meals from seasonal produce. Combined composting, sustainable gardening and fresh produce cooking workshops. Enjoy the food prepared together at the end of the session. Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a snack and keep cup or water bottle. This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community dedicated to putting the 'plant back into planet'. Bush Kindy: Library stories and rhymes
Come along for a special Bush Kindy and make memories with your little ones as they take part in story-time and rhymes in the natural environment. Bush Kindy sessions can go for up to 45 minutes and themes vary each week. Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. This session is presented in partnership with Brisbane City Council Libraries and First 5 Forever. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, co-ordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in at the environment centre. All children must be directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Suitable old play clothes recommended as sessions may include messy play.Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Clock Tower Tour
Discover the hidden secrets of your heritage-listed City Hall building with a guided tour of Brisbane’s iconic Clock Tower. The Clock Tower Tour is a “must do” while in Brisbane! For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Brisbane City Council provides free vaccinations to eligible residents (aged from 6 weeks and above) through our community immunisation clinics. Immunisation helps protect people against diseases such as influenza, measles, whooping cough, polio and tetanus. Providing a free immunisation service is another way Council is helping deliver our Brisbane Vision.

Quiet hours at Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre are an opportunity to explore the Centre at your own pace. During quiet hours, we dim the lights, lower the sounds and pause some activities. This creates a soothing space for you to explore at your own pace. This designated time is intended for those who prefer or may benefit from a quieter and more relaxed surrounding. This may include those with autism, sensory sensitivities, disabilities, dementia, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses or anyone who prefers less sensory stimulation.

The Earth Above: A Deep Time View of Australia’s Epic History
The Earth Above: A Deep Time View of Australia’s Epic History explores Australia’s past 140,000 years, incorporating traditional and scientific knowledge to tell Australia’s epic story and transport viewers to four locations: Girraween Lagoon on Larrakia and Wulna Country outside Darwin in the NT; Cloggs Cave on GunaiKurnai Country in Victoria’s East Gippsland region; Lake Mungo in NSW on the land of the Barkandji/Paakantyi, Ngyiampaa and Mutthi Mutthi people; and Jiigurru (Lizard Island) on the Great Barrier Reef, which is sacred to many, including the Dingaal community. This full-dome planetarium show is from the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH) produced by the Deakin MotionLab in collaboration with First Nations communities and UOW Science Space.

Blushing
Zen Zen Zo's Blushing is a bold new physical theatre work investigating touch in all its shapes and forms. Enter the microscopic world of the Cells writhing beneath your skin, dissecting the intricacies of physical intimacy across our lives. At a time when distance is the norm, and touch a radical act in a post-pandemic world, Blushing examines our internal dance between shame and curiosity. From a cast of 8 incredible Brisbane performers, witness your bodies’ evolving relationship to touch as we grow and navigate the complexities of physical contact. Blushing runs from the 19 - 29 June ay the Holy Trinity Church, Fortitude Valley.

December 2025. As France battles an unprecedented winter heatwave, three broke housemates receive bad news: their rent is about to skyrocket. In the midst of a brutal cost-of-living crisis, this blow threatens not only their already fragile budget but, even worse, their beloved Christmas tradition: the annual foie gras marathon! Faced with their increasingly precarious situation, the trio of misfits find themselves divided over one existential question: how do you respond to a world that’s becoming more dehumanised every day, other than by becoming just like it? Sharp, irreverent, and fast-paced, this original dark comedy takes a brutally honest look at our anxious times, with plenty of wit and humour along the way. This show is performed entirely in French, with English surtitles projected above the stage.
