Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creek lines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creek line regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade. Bush Kindy: Library stories and rhymes

Come along for a special Bush Kindy and make memories with your little ones as they take part in story-time and rhymes in the natural environment. Bush Kindy sessions can go for up to 45 minutes and themes vary each week. Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. This session is presented in partnership with Brisbane City Council Libraries and First 5 Forever. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, co-ordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in at the environment centre. All children must be directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Suitable old play clothes recommended as sessions may include messy play.Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Volunteer Bushcare Working Bee - Boondall Wetlands Bushcare Group

Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects. The Boondall Wetlands Bushcare Group meet every Friday (except public holidays) until end of June 2025.

Bird watching walk for beginners (Boondall Wetlands):

Join Environment Centre staff on an early morning walk and improve your bird identification skills while exploring the reserve. Environment Centre staff will guide you through their tips and tricks to observing birds while providing fun information on what you might see while out in the wetlands. Binoculars supplied or please bring your own if you have them. Requirements: Wear a wide-brimmed hat, secure, fully enclosed walking shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen and insect repellent. Please bring drinking water and a snack as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Any walks or outdoor activities are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy sessions can go up to 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes vary each week. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the environment centre. Guided walk of the Tulla-yugaipa Track (useful plants)

Join this informative guided walk around the gentle 100m Tulla-yugaipa dhagun Track. Meaning 'place of useful plants', this short track showcases plants used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and colonial peoples. A volunteer guide will lead you around the trail to identify some of the featured native plants and other wetlands resources and explain some traditional uses. After the walk, visitors can enjoy other nearby walking tracks, relax in the picnic area, and visit Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. Join a family-friendly yoga session for beginners aged 5 years and up. Play, stretch, and move while soaking up the natural beauty of the bushland setting. Participants can do what they can and go at their own pace. Please bring a yoga mat per participant (you may bring a towel, but a mat is preferred). After the session, visit the environment centre or continue relaxing in nature by exploring nearby walking tracks in the reserve. Junior explorers: Wild about plants!

Go wild about native Aussie plants these school holidays! Discover fascinating facts about some of our native plants, track down clues on a useful plants scavenger hunt challenge, get creative and experiment with plants, fibres, and other natural materials, and taste some commercial 'bush foods' made from native plant ingredients. Along the way you’ll learn why native plants are crucial for healthy habitats and how growing native plants can help us improve biodiversity in our bushlands, backyards, and balconies. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre. All children must be directly supervised by an adult booked into the activity. All participants please wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, and insect repellent. Long sleeves and long pants recommended.
