World Migratory Bird Day - Shorebird adventures
Join the fun and help celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at this lively family-friendly session where curiosity takes flight! Through hands-on activities and creative play, we'll explore the wonderful world of shorebirds - how they live, what makes them special, and why our wetlands are so important to them.This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity, send an email.Requirements:Arrive 10 minutes early to check in.Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent.Please bring water and a snack as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This event will go ahead in light rain. Audrey Gibbs Art Prize
Audrey Gibbs joined the Royal Queensland Art Society in 1983 and was recognised as a Fellow of the society in 2009. This exhibition explores genre artworks, one of Audrey's great pleasures.This exhibition focuses on Genre Artworks, one of Audrey's favourite themes to paint. Genre Artworks are those that depict ordinary people in everyday situations, both in the exterior and the interior. Rather than heroic or mythological subjects, these works celebrate the familiar: everyday people participating in domestic routines, work, leisure, social gatherings, and quiet moments of daily life.The Royal Queensland Art Society is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.

Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways.Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane's entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum.Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking.Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire's design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Author talk: Yvon's Great Adventure
Join us at Anzac Square Memorial Galleries on Sunday 11 October as author Peter Grose shares his book Yvon's Great Adventure.This is the extraordinary true story of how a French boy, Yvon Calmus, survived the final year of World War I and journeyed to Australia in the protective care of knockabout Australian soldiers. While the story is aimed at children, the tale of Yvon's Great Adventure surmounts age. It beautifully captures the personal relationships that formed during the war, many of which endured well beyond the Armistice.Peter Grose is the grandson of Lieutenant Frank Grose, the YMCA Welfare Officer who rescued Yvon Calmus alongside his 'adoptive' Australian family.Copies of Peter's book will be available for purchase. Questions are welcome.After the talk, visitors can stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from the First World War to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.Locations: Anzac Square Memorial Galleries is located at 285 Ann Street, Brisbane. Free guided tour - Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha
Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane's Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors.Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size.Meeting point: Meet at the Mt Coot-tha Visitor Information Centre.Walk duration: Walks last about one hour and are taken at a gentle pace.Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.
Music on Sundays 5: Old Worlds, New Sounds
A high-voltage program led by Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici.The concert opens with an overture by First Nations composer Christopher Sainsbury before Violinist Catherina Lee takes the spotlight in Bruch's soaring Violin Concerto.Then Dvořák's Slavonic Dances bursts with folk rhythm and fire. Before Bizet's Carmen Suite brings drama and irresistible melody, from the sultry Habanera to the swagger of Les Toréadors.Australian composer Holly Harrison also adds a jolt of the unexpected with Hi Vis, a groovy piece with plenty of bite.Rich, cinematic, and full of flair, that is music that grabs you from the first note.Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.

The Lord Mayor's Seniors Cabaret is a free program for Brisbane seniors. It offers expert guidance and helps develop creative talents in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Prepare, deliver, succeed - if you can dream it, you can do it!This year's theme is Legends and icons: the people, moments and music that shaped our world. This theme is a powerful way to celebrate the extraordinary individuals, defining moments and unforgettable music that have shaped generations.After completing the masterclasses, some participants perform in a showcase which are held across the city. Seniors art exhibition
Celebrate the creativity and artistic achievements of Brisbane's senior artists at the annual Seniors Art Exhibition.From 12 to 16 October 2026, visitors can explore a diverse collection of artworks created by participants of the City Hall Fifty Plus Centre Art Classes, including works from accomplished artists including Terry Hadnutt, whose portrait of Slim Dusty was awarded Grand Champion in the 2026 Ekka Painting and Drawing Section, and acclaimed artist Archana Bose, whose artwork is featured in the accompanying image.The exhibition will be displayed in The People's Gallery, City Hall's ground floor corridor gallery spaces, and will be open to the public daily from 8am to 5pm. Artwork on display will also be available for purchase (cash sales only).Presented as part of Queensland Seniors Month, the exhibition showcases the talent, creativity and lifelong learning of older Queenslanders.
