Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose.Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs.This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region's most talented First Nations artists and designers.Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Create a poppy suncatcher
Pop into Anzac Square Memorial Galleries during the spring school holidays to create your own poppy suncatcher.Let's get crafty! Suitable for all ages, this free family-friendly craft activity is available between 10 am - 4pm daily from 20 September to 4 October (closed Saturdays). Bookings are not required, simply visit the craft table in our Post World War II Gallery.Facilitated by our knowledgeable team, this activity will explore the special connection between poppies and Australia's military past. A resilient flower, the red poppy was amongst the first to return to bloom in the fields of France and Belgium after World War I, emerging as a symbol of remembrance for the Allied soldiers who fell in battle.Once you've created your poppy suncatcher, stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from World War I to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.

Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. School holiday activity - Spring hub - Flower power
Discover the fascinating world of flowers and the peculiar Pollinators who work with them at our Spring hub school holiday activities at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha.Take off on a scientific exploration of our Sensory Garden, bursting with blooms of all shapes and sizes and bring your findings back to the hub where you can take a closer look with microscopes and magnifying glasses.Get your hands dirty and turn science into art by making 3D clay pollen models and sensational seed balls. Finally compile all your field notes and decorate them with pen or a paintbrush while you discover more about the precious pollinators who help to keep our flowers fantastic and our fruit plentiful.Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawn.Note: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult.Location: Meet at the Auditorium lawn.Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle.This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community dedicated to putting the plant back into planet.For more information, send an email.

Wetlands weaving workshop (15+ years)
Join a cosy morning of weaving at this small group experience for ages 15+ years with contemporary fibre artist Monique Ross. Take some time out for yourself, relax, and connect creatively with nature while learning weaving skills using raffia palm fibre. Suitable for beginners, all materials supplied. This workshop will take place indoors.About the artist: Monique teaches from a contemporary craft perspective aligned with nature connection and mindfulness. Monique is not an Indigenous artist and does not teach or represent Indigenous cultural practices.This activity is for the general public. Outdoor Gallery artists, this engaging session explores creative pathways from concept to product. Hear real-world examples, practical tips and personal stories from artists who are building sustainable creative careers through their work.Expect a lively, collaborative environment where connections are made, ideas are sparked and the seeds of your own creative future begin to take shape.This program is part of Council's latest Outdoor Gallery exhibition, AMPLIFY ME! , a celebration of local Brisbane artists with lived experience of disability that showcases their work in accessible outdoor spaces across the city. Gathering presents Muralappi Arts: Jessica Skeen.Jessica Skeen is a contemporary Aboriginal artist and founder of Muralappi Arts, an Indigenous family-owned business with a proud legacy spanning four generations. A Biri and Kuku Thaypan woman from North Queensland, Jessica was raised in Logan and continues to live and work there today. Her artistic practice is grounded in culture, storytelling, and connection to Country, with works that explore themes of healing, identity, and community.Through murals, canvas artworks, and functional art pieces, Jessica creates powerful visual narratives that foster reflection, understanding, and connection. Her work has been featured in hospitals, public spaces, and community initiatives throughout Queensland, enriching shared spaces with stories that celebrate Aboriginal culture and lived experience.Dedicated to sharing culture and knowledge, Jessica also delivers engaging, hands-on workshops that inspire creativity while promoting cultural understanding and respect.Join us on Wednesday 30 September, from 12 noon to 1pm, at the Queen Street Mall Main Stage for a special Muralappi Arts display and showcase presented by Jessica Skeen.This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.

Junior exploreres: Nature journaling for kids (9+ years)
Enjoy a fun workshop learning the basics of nature journaling, the creative practice of recording your interactions with nature on paper. You can use sketches, paintings, poetry, species lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. This fun, relaxing practice encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and builds a sense of curiosity and wonder! BYO sketch/art pad. Other materials provided.This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity please send an email.Requirements:Please bring your your own sketch/art pad.Arrive 10 minutes early to check in.All children must be directly supervised throughout by an adult booked into the event.Hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, insect repellent.Please bring an outdoor chair if you would like to use one.Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and will be adapted for delivery indoors if required.
