Paradise Palette Art Institute 2026 Pasifik Horizon Art Exhibition PNG New Caledonia
Paradisie Palette Art Institude is proud to present Pasifik Horizon, a landmark exhibition bringing together leading artists from Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in a vibrant celebration of Pacific creativity, identity, and cultural exchange. The exhibition will run from 29 October to 8 November 2026 at the Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS), Brisbane.Pasifik Horizon continues PPAI's commitment to showcasing Pacific artistry, building cultural bridges, and creating opportunities for artists across the region. Mastering Portraiture - Drawing Workshop with Dr Kay Kane
This workshop welcomes both newcomers and artists returning for a second (or third) time.Whether you are building foundations or refining skills you already possess, the focus remains the same: portraiture drawing that is grounded in clear seeing, rather than photographic imitation.This course follows the same format as Kay's workshop Fundamental Structure of the Human Head. At its core, the course treats the essential elements of all drawing-size, scale, shape, tonal relationships and spatial organisation-as equally vital.You will practise selecting, organising and simplifying so that accurate, eloquent observation becomes second nature. This disciplined seeing is the necessary groundwork for any expressive interpretation of the human face but can equally be applied to subjects other than portraiture.Throughout the five weeks, Dr Kane will teach these fundamentals to the group while also giving regular one-to-one feedback, so every participant-whether first-time or returning-receives personal guidance tailored to their stage of development.Returning artists often discover that revisiting the same principles with individual attention reveals new layers of understanding and opens fresh possibilities for expression. New students gain a solid, structured pathway into portraiture. In both cases the aim is the same: to experience the living connection between structural understanding and expressive interpretation of the human visage.Materials Supplied: Graphite, 2B/4B/6B Pencils, Plastic Ruler, Plastic Rubber, Heavy Cartridge Paper and Mixed Media Card.PLEASE NOTE: The workshop will be held in the upstairs studio gallery which is only accessible via a flight of stairs.Dr Kay Kane is a highly respected artist with 50+ years of art practice to her name and 45 years' experience as a teacher in visual art - drawing and painting. Her 12 years tertiary education includes a Diploma of Fine Art, a BA in Fine Art Painting, (Both from Central St Martins Art College, London) as well as a PHD, Doctor of Visual Art, Queensland College of Art, Brisbane.Royal Queensland Art Society is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.
Maestro 9: Beethoven, Mendelssohn & Fisher
Where grace meets grandeur in perfect balance.Beethoven's sole Violin Concerto marries nobility with disarming simplicity: long, singing lines that seem to float above time, flashes of playful wit, and passages of hushed intimacy. Satu Vänskä, Principal Violin of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, brings its poetry to life with limitless grace. Led by Guest Conductor Giordano Bellincampi, the orchestra crafts a luminous backdrop, rich in nuance and delicacy.Opening the evening, New Zealander Salina Fisher's Murmuring Light casts a delicate spell - one of iridescent colour that prepares the ear for Beethoven's radiance. This isn't your dad's favourite free-to-air quiz show.Queer Quiz Live is a chaotic live trivia panel show packed with queer comedians and performers (with a couple of straighties for diversity purposes) who must fight each other to the death. No. Not death, it isn't covered under our insurance.Expect camp nonsense, audience participation, niche queer knowledge and at least one contestant taking it far too seriously. This art form is unique to Australia and utilises the paper bark shreds of melaleuca trees. Different trees produce different colours and are used to produce landscapes, seascapes, or anything your imagination can come up with. No paints or artificial colours are used.

Gathering presents Benjin Maza.Join us for a special lunchtime performance by Benjin Maza, a proud Meriam, Yidindji, Birri-Gubba and Tanna artist based in Magandjin (Brisbane).An award-winning multi-disciplinary performer, Benjin has captivated audiences across Australia and internationally through his work as a singer, songwriter, actor, dancer, playwright and director. Renowned for his ability to tell stories through music, movement and theatre, he has performed with leading arts organisations including Bangarra Dance Theatre, Queensland Theatre, Dead Puppet Society, Karul Projects, The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe, and Shock Therapy Arts.Throughout his career, Benjin has collaborated with acclaimed artists and productions, including performances alongside international music icons Sting and Shaggy. His work on Crossing the Divide, which he co-wrote and co-directed, earned him two Matilda Awards as both a performer and playwright.As a musician, Benjin has shared his original songs with audiences throughout South East Queensland, combining soulful melodies, sharp humour and dynamic stage presence to create memorable performances that reflect his unique perspective and storytelling style.Join us at the Queen Street Mall Main Stage from 12 noon to 1pm for an engaging lunchtime performance by Benjin Maza.This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.

*** This event is booked out *** Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. The basic techniques include chain stitch, buttonhole or blanket stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, cross stitch. These remain the fundamental techniques of hand embroidery today. This activity does not have a teacher or hold classes but is a friendly group getting together in mornings and afternoons.
