Lord Mayor's Children's Program - TheatreDome
Brisbane City Council proudly presents a special Lord Mayor's Children's Program for Brisbane Festival. Step inside the TheatreDome! Channel Nine's new entertaining and unconventional improv comedy show like no other. Young drama students join up in the hunt for ultimate theatrical glory, under the watchful eye of our host, the Great Overseer. Alongside their mentors, teams will face off in a rapid-fire series of theatre games and comedic scenes to amuse and enthrall the ruler of the Dome. Quick wit, unflinching instinct, and commitment to the bit are high in demand - we assure you it will not be bland! Can our teams' theatrical thrills and spills earn the Overseer's favour, and who amongst them will earn the right to be crowned as undisputed champions of the TheatreDome? Accessible seating is available on the day. Additional 10am performance available for registration here. Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose.Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs.This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region's most talented First Nations artists and designers.Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Create a poppy suncatcher
Pop into Anzac Square Memorial Galleries during the spring school holidays to create your own poppy suncatcher.Let's get crafty! Suitable for all ages, this free family-friendly craft activity is available between 10am-4pm daily from 20 September to 4 October (closed Saturdays). Bookings are not required, simply visit the craft table in our Post World War II Gallery.Facilitated by our knowledgeable team, this activity will explore the special connection between poppies and Australia's military past. A resilient flower, the red poppy was amongst the first to return to bloom in the fields of France and Belgium after World War I, emerging as a symbol of remembrance for the Allied soldiers who fell in battle.Once you've created your poppy suncatcher, stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from World War I to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands.
What's In The Woods? - Backbone Theatre For Babies
Be transported to a soft and cosy woodland, right out of a picture book, where each new season is full of natural wonders waiting to be discovered by young, inquisitive minds. Enjoy an engaging and interactive story by the campfire before embarking on your own sensory exploration of the woods.Ages: Tailor made for audiences aged 0-3 and filled with performance, puppetry and play 'What's In The Woods?' is a gentle welcome to the world of theatre. Sessions are split into 3 age groups running at various times:0-1 years1-2 years2-3 years.Run time: Approximately 45 minutes, 20 minutes of performance and 25 minutes of play in the space.Acccessibility: Wheelchair accessible, baby changing facilities provided onsite and in space. School holiday activity - Spring hub - Flower power
Discover the fascinating world of flowers and the peculiar Pollinators who work with them at our Spring hub school holiday activities at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha.Take off on a scientific exploration of our Sensory Garden, bursting with blooms of all shapes and sizes and bring your findings back to the hub where you can take a closer look with microscopes and magnifying glasses.Get your hands dirty and turn science into art by making 3D clay pollen models and sensational seed balls. Finally compile all your field notes and decorate them with pen or a paintbrush while you discover more about the precious pollinators who help to keep our flowers fantastic and our fruit plentiful.Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawn.Note: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult.Location: Meet at the Auditorium lawn.Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle.This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community dedicated to putting the plant back into planet.For more information, send an email.

Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. The Lord Mayor's Seniors Cabaret is a free program for Brisbane seniors. It offers expert guidance and helps develop creative talents in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Prepare, deliver, succeed - if you can dream it, you can do it!This year's theme is Legends and icons: the people, moments and music that shaped our world. This theme is a powerful way to celebrate the extraordinary individuals, defining moments and unforgettable music that have shaped generations.After completing the masterclasses, some participants perform in a showcase which are held across the city. Nature journaling for adults
Join this regular nature journaling get-together at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are a great opportunity to take some time out, relax, and connect creatively with nature.Requirements on the day:Please bring your own basic sketch/art pad. All other materials supplied.Wear sun-safe clothing and secure, fully enclosed walking shoes.Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Bring a lightweight outdoor chair if you'd like to use one.Please arrive 5 minutes early to check-in.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

A celebration of music that moves the body and soul.From folk steps to final farewells, this concert is built around the joy of dance. At its heart is Rachmaninov's final major work Symphonic Dances. Written in exile, it is filled with sweeping emotion, nostalgia, and the echoes of a life in motion. Led by Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici, it's a powerful blend of elegance and vitality complete with an unforgettable saxophone solo.The evening begins with Dvořák's Slavonic Dances, bursting with Bohemian spirit and irresistible folk rhythms. Then comes soloist James Crabb for the Queensland premiere of Holly Harrison's Concerto for Classical Accordion and Orchestra, a bold, high-voltage work that dances to its own beat.Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.
