Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. WILD ABANDON by Seán Dowling, Ian Lawson, and Merlynn Tong
A bold, sensual new multi-narrative drama comes to MELT Festival 2026. Wild Abandon is a daring new work by Seán Dowling, Ian Lawson, and Merlynn Tong - a funny, messy, and unexpectedly tender play about sex, intimacy, and the rules we make to feel safe.Set across a single night in a nondescript hotel room, Wild Abandon follows three couples arriving with three different agendas - all chasing the same thing: permission. Permission to want what they want. Permission to break their own rules. Permission to be seen, without being swallowed whole by shame, expectation, or someone else's fantasy. MZAZA: Songs in the Making
Join award-winning world-folk sextet MZAZA for a rare and intimate evening at Brisbane's Thomas Dixon Centre, featuring brand-new songs in development alongside beloved favourites.As the band prepares for its next album, Songs in the Making offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience the creative process first-hand, with their reactions helping shape the music before it reaches the recording studio.Blending accordion, violin, shah kaman, double bass, percussion and guitar with expressive vocals in French and English, MZAZA delivers a rich and captivating world-folk sound. The evening also includes a special Q&A with the musicians, offering insights into their song writing journey and the stories behind their music.The Creative Sparks grant is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council to support local arts and culture in Brisbane.

Celebrating Country and Culture through the bold designs of Magpie Goose.Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs.This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region's most talented First Nations artists and designers.Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Creative Glass Guild annual showcase
Beautiful hand-crafted glass creations will be on show and sale when the Creative Glass Guild of Qld hosts its annual showcase. A stunning range of items includes objects d'art, glass jewellery, mosaic pieces, Tiffany-style lamps, leadlight and copperfoiled handiworks, and fused and slumped glass plates and platters.On show for the first time are hand-made glass wall lamps created from vibrant glass panels enriched with fused glass details.Unique Christmas gifts include a selection of festive ornaments reflecting this year's showcase theme - 'A Sunburnt Christmas'.Visitors also have the opportunity to meet glass artists, see demonstrations and enrol in courses and workshops.

Mastering Portraiture - Drawing Workshop with Dr Kay Kane
This workshop welcomes both newcomers and artists returning for a second (or third) time.Whether you are building foundations or refining skills you already possess, the focus remains the same: portraiture drawing that is grounded in clear seeing, rather than photographic imitation.This course follows the same format as Kay's workshop Fundamental Structure of the Human Head. At its core, the course treats the essential elements of all drawing-size, scale, shape, tonal relationships and spatial organisation-as equally vital.You will practise selecting, organising and simplifying so that accurate, eloquent observation becomes second nature. This disciplined seeing is the necessary groundwork for any expressive interpretation of the human face but can equally be applied to subjects other than portraiture.Throughout the five weeks, Dr Kane will teach these fundamentals to the group while also giving regular one-to-one feedback, so every participant-whether first-time or returning-receives personal guidance tailored to their stage of development.Returning artists often discover that revisiting the same principles with individual attention reveals new layers of understanding and opens fresh possibilities for expression. New students gain a solid, structured pathway into portraiture. In both cases the aim is the same: to experience the living connection between structural understanding and expressive interpretation of the human visage.Materials Supplied: Graphite, 2B/4B/6B Pencils, Plastic Ruler, Plastic Rubber, Heavy Cartridge Paper and Mixed Media Card.PLEASE NOTE: The workshop will be held in the upstairs studio gallery which is only accessible via a flight of stairs.Dr Kay Kane is a highly respected artist with 50+ years of art practice to her name and 45 years' experience as a teacher in visual art - drawing and painting. Her 12 years tertiary education includes a Diploma of Fine Art, a BA in Fine Art Painting, (Both from Central St Martins Art College, London) as well as a PHD, Doctor of Visual Art, Queensland College of Art, Brisbane.Royal Queensland Art Society is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.

50 Plus: Art in bark workshop
This art form is unique to Australia and utilises the paper bark shreds of melaleuca trees. Different trees produce different colours and are used to produce landscapes, seascapes, or anything your imagination can come up with. No paints or artificial colours are used.
