OUTDOOR GALLERY EXHIBITION 'Craig & Karl: Rear Vision'
Brisbane City Council presents the latest Outdoor Gallery exhibition Craig & Karl: Rear Vision, co-curated by Carrie McCarthy and Angela Goddard, from 14 June to 20 October 2025. Craig & Karl: Rear Vision is a dynamic, playful exploration of one of Queensland's most internationally successful creative exports. With their signature visual language defined by bold colour, graphic precision and infectious joy, the exhibition features some of Craig & Karl’s most celebrated series exploring themes of community, identity, imagination and love. Co-curated by Carrie McCarthy and Angela Goddard (from Griffith University Art Museum), Craig & Karl: Rear Vision includes many works never exhibited in Australia to serve as a homecoming prelude ahead of their Australian-exclusive exhibition and major public art interventions with Griffith University Art Museum and Brisbane Festival in September 2025. Craig Redman & Karl Maier first teamed up in 1996 after meeting as students at the Queensland College of Art & Design, Brisbane. They came to attention as co-founders of design collective Rinzen before establishing themselves as collaborative duo Craig & Karl in 2011. Their beginnings in Brisbane continue to inform their practice, regularly incorporating homages to the city that helped launch their careers. Their dynamic aesthetic employs the artists’ signature message of humour, joy and optimism to explore themes of community, identity, imagination, and love. Council’s Outdoor Gallery transforms Brisbane’s laneways and city streets into imaginative, curious and engaging spaces. We invite you to explore Brisbane’s hidden gems through Outdoor Gallery’s exhibition artworks found on light boxes and banners, in vitrines and as evening projections. A festival of performances where Brisbane's undiscovered backyards, businesses, bus stops and warehouses become the stage, anywhere but where you'd expect it. Back by popular demand is the RQAS Abstraction exhibition! For this exhibition artists were invited to submit artworks in their own media and style, showing us their interpretation of an Abstract or Abstracted Artwork. This includes art that has recognisable forms, as well as more expressive styles and pure abstraction, with inspiration from movements such as Fauvism, Dadaism or Cubism. Presented by Joanne Tindale with Brisbane Anywhere Festival, 'Buttercup and Venus: Cowkeepers Extraordinaire' is a slightly absurd short play about the loss of usefulness and the meaning of family. Ageing dairy cows Buttercup and Venus are Cowkeepers; housekeepers and surrogate parents, to 17-year-old Charlie and eleven-year-old Maxime. In this alternative world, dairy cows are bonded with a child from birth to the age of 18. As Charlie is about to turn 18, Venus must look for another job and accommodation or risk homelessness. Venue: The Paint Factory, 115 Hyde Road, Yeronga This project is supported by a Creative Sparks grant. The Creative Sparks grant is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council to support local arts and culture in Brisbane.

Metamorphosis
Delivered as part of Anywhere Festival, Metamorphosis is a theatrical and audio-visual Kaleidoscope. Calvin Smith has written an altogether gut-wrenching and yet hilarious and inspiring work; an emotional rollercoaster. You will laugh, and cry, and discover together that, although there is much work to be done for men to transform into metaphorical “butterflies”, there is hope that we can mend men’s hearts and work together for a better world. On Saturday, 2nd of August at 7pm, we invite you to the opening of the exhibition where we will be announcing the winners. Drinks will be available for purchase, and nibbles will be provided. Ever wonder how the dishwasher magically loads itself? Or how the farewell card appears at exactly the right time when someone retires? Welcome to the world of She Works Hard For (No) Money — a black comedy that dives headfirst into the chaotic circus of unpaid labour. From “I don’t know where the towels are kept!” to “Just tell me what to do!”, this show uncovers the comedy and tragedy of weaponised incompetence — the art of pretending not to know, so you don’t have to do the boring stuff. And we’re not naming names, but if the shoe fits (and he can find it), maybe that man in your life needs a wake-up call. Written by Samantha Hill, this hilariously infuriating comedy of labours will be transplanted into a real office space for the Anywhere Festival. It’ll be just like being at work: you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and then you’ll stuff yourself with cake… This event is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council. Manly Creative Markets
The Manly Creative Markets operates Every Sunday (except when Christmas Day is on a Sunday!) from 8am until 2pm, as an alternative retail outlet for local and regional creative talent, and is definitely not a flea market. You will find artisan wares, arts & crafts, plants, great coffee, entertainment, massage, fashion, pet items and so much more at the Manly Creative Markets in Little Bayside Park every Sunday. Free parking in the surrounding streets.

Explorers - The Age of Discovery with James May
James May will premiere a landmark live theatre show in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom, bringing to life the stories of the extraordinary explorers who traversed the deserts, scaled the mountains, sailed into the unknown. The live show combines theatrical techniques and James’ charismatic storytelling to create an evening of compelling intellectual entertainment. From Ice Age migrations to space travel, the stories of famous, infamous and unknown explorers will come to life in a theatric style, presented by British television presenter and award-winning journalist James May. James May is best known as a co-presenter of the motoring programs Top Gear and The Grand Tour, and as the host of the Our Man in… TV series. Few endeavours have captured the imagination and spirit of humanity as profoundly as exploration. Audiences will embark on an awe-inspiring journey through time and space. They will discover the stories of those who risked (and sometimes gave) everything, driven by insatiable curiosity and an unquenchable thirst for discovery, pushing back the boundaries of the unexplored regions of the world, and now, the universe. Live on stage, James May will unravel the breathtaking tales of humankind from the earliest wanderings of ancient hunter-gatherers to the intrepid, often obsessive explorers, among them Lief Ericson, John Cabot, James Cook’s navigator Tupaia, Stanley and Livingstone, Gertrude Bell, through to the moon walkers, space exploration and the seemingly impossible challenges of interplanetary and intergalactic travel. Please be aware: Explorers features occasional scents, fog and other immersive theatrical elements.
