Junior exploreres: Nature journaling for kids (9+ years)

Enjoy a fun workshop learning the basics of nature journaling, the creative practice of recording your interactions with nature on paper. You can use sketches, paintings, poetry, species lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. This fun, relaxing practice encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and builds a sense of curiosity and wonder! BYO sketch/art pad. Other materials provided.This activity is for the general public. If you are a daycare or vacation group interested in attending a similar activity please send an email.Requirements:Please bring your your own sketch/art pad.Arrive 10 minutes early to check in.All children must be directly supervised throughout by an adult booked into the event.Hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, insect repellent.Please bring an outdoor chair if you would like to use one.Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and will be adapted for delivery indoors if required. Discover the fascinating world of flowers and the peculiar Pollinators who work with them at our Spring hub school holiday activities at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha.Take off on a scientific exploration of our Sensory Garden, bursting with blooms of all shapes and sizes and bring your findings back to the hub where you can take a closer look with microscopes and magnifying glasses.Get your hands dirty and turn science into art by making 3D clay pollen models and sensational seed balls. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending.Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum.Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking.Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire's design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form.
