Bush Kindy: Library Stories and Rhymes
Come along for a special Bush Kindy and make memories with your little ones as they take part in story-time and rhymes in the natural environment. Bush Kindy sessions can go for up to 45 minutes and themes vary each week. Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. This session is presented in partnership with Brisbane City Council Libraries and First 5 Forever. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, co-ordinated by the State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in at the environment centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes, sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. Suitable old play clothes recommended as sessions may include messy play.Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Bush Kindy
Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy sessions can go up to 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes vary each week. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the environment centre. All children must be directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Suitable old clothes recommended for messy play. Nature journaling social club
Take some time out for yourself and reconnect with nature. This nature journaling social group meets at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are facilitated by environment centre staff and are suitable for beginners and those who have already started journaling. After a simple introductory session, staff will lead a short, gentle guided walk to practice some nature journaling. After the activity ends, participants are welcome to continue journaling in the natural beauty of the reserve. Please bring your own basic A5 sketch/art pad and a re-usable cup to enjoy tea and coffee on arrival. What is nature journaling? Nature journaling is the practice of recording your personal interactions with nature using sketches, writing, paintings, poetry, lists, numbers, graphs, cartoons and more. This easy, relaxing practice encourages mindfulness, hones observation skills, and cultivates a sense of wonder and curiosity. Close observation of the natural world can be a wonderful form of meditative expression, and provides an opportunity for stillness, reflection, and mindful connection with nature. Requirements: Please bring your own basic A5 sketch/art pad and a re-usable cup. Please bring your own outdoor chair to use if required, as there may be limited seating for some sessions. Wear sun-safe clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed walking shoes, and bring insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack as there are no food outlets on site.Meeting point: Picnic shelter near the basketball court. If the carpark is full, park in nearby Raven Street and walk 5 minutes through the reserve to the centre. Note: This activity will go ahead in light rain and can be delivered indoors if required. Hungry caterpillars
Bookings essential. Enjoy a story, then get active with sack races and a wiggly caterpillar race. This innovative, energetic workshop promises heaps of fun while promoting a healthy message. This is a GOLD'n'Kids event suitable for seniors and young people 4 years and over.

Basketball skills and drills
Bookings essential. Skill development and fun games with fundamental basketball skills, drills and 3x3 action. This is a Chillout event suitable for young people 6-17 years.

Little Explorers: Batty bush walk
Join a fun guided walk to visit some of our resident bats and learn some amazing facts about these winged wildlife heroes. These quiet (and not-so-quiet) achievers are crucial to the health of forests, making all bats ecological powerhouses! There will be giveaway take-home crafts for children and some tips on easy ways we all can help bats with their struggle to survive. Suitable for families, groups welcome. Less than 1 km on easy walking paths. After the activity, visit the environment centre and explore the beautiful bushland reserve. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre. All participants must wear a hat, fully enclosed shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Senses alive: see, hear, touch nature
Bookings essential. Come and bring your senses to life. Go for a walk and see the trees, hear the birds, touch the leaves and breathe in the fresh air. Come along to hear some stories and songs about the senses, engage in some creative activities that explore the textures of the park and play some games that will get everyone feeling active and healthy. This is a Chillout event suitable for young people 3-8 years .

Little Explorers: Bug detectives
Meet some of our resident insects and other mini-beasts at a fun bug show, then test out your detective skills on a short walk investigating bugs and their habitats. What will we find living nearby? Join this one-of-a-kind school holiday activity to discover fascinating facts about bugs and other mini-beasts and find out why these amazing animals are nature’s superheroes! Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes early to check in. All children must be supervised by an adult booked into the activity. Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, and fully enclosed shoes. Junior Explorers: Bush detectives
Find out why poo is a clue! We don't always see animals but we often find evidence of them. Build your wildlife detective skills at this fun hands-on activity all about tracks, scats, and habitats! Explore the reserve, learn bush observation skills, identify native animals and plants and discover simple actions we can take to protect bushland habitats. After the activity, visit the environment centre and explore the beautiful natural surroundings of the reserve. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes early to check in.
