Aqua aerobics

Threads in common

RQAS Abstraction Exhibition
Back by popular demand is the RQAS Abstraction exhibition! For this exhibition artists were invited to submit artworks in their own media and style, showing us their interpretation of an Abstract or Abstracted Artwork. This includes art that has recognisable forms, as well as more expressive styles and pure abstraction, with inspiration from movements such as Fauvism, Dadaism or Cubism. 80 years on: remembering Victory in the Pacific World War II tours
Join us at Anzac Square this August for free guided tours exploring Australia’s involvement in the Pacific Campaign during World War II. This year we mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific (VP80), the end of Australia’s involvement in World War II. On 15 August 1945 jubilant celebrations broke out across Australia after Imperial Japan unconditionally surrendered to Allied Forces, ending six long years of conflict. 80 years on we still remember the service, sacrifice and bravery of all the men and women who fought to defend our nation, values and way of life during this conflict. As part of VP80 commemorations, join us for a free 45-minute tour exploring the war in the Pacific from Australia’s perspective. Tours depart at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm each Sunday for the month of August. Come along to discover: the histories behind the World War II statues in Anzac Square key campaigns and battles, such as Singapore, Kokoda, Milne Bay, Guadalcanal the profound impact on the Australian Homefront, including the mobilisation of women and bombing of Townsville personal stories of service personnel, such as Gunner William Thompson, a Japanese prisoner of war. the post-war legacy and occupation of Japan. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors.
