Artist in Residence: Martin Edge
Queensland artist Martin Edge brings his playful, joy‑filled world to the Fairfax Gallery for his Artist in Residence project. Known for his vibrant scenes inspired by everyday life, from seaside moments and city adventures to his much‑loved CityCat journeys, Edge blends memory and imagination into colourful, whimsical compositions. Across three weeks, Edge will create a large‑scale mural directly onto the gallery walls, offering visitors a rare opportunity to watch his process in action and chat with him as the work evolves. Featuring bright colours, bold geometric forms and iconic Brisbane landmarks, the finished artwork will present two lively scenes of Brisbane City in Edge’s distinctive style. Step inside an exciting new residency project that invites you to experience art in unexpected ways. Artist in Residence Renee Kire takes over Museum of Brisbane’s entryway, transforming these spaces with a vibrant and dynamic mix of striking vinyl graphics and sculptural timber elements. These features create an immersive pathway that stretches across walls and ceilings, guiding you into the heart of the Museum. Drawing inspiration from Minimalism while reinterpreting the movement through a contemporary feminist lens, Kire brings fresh attention to the often-overlooked contributions of women in the field. Bright, colourful and welcoming for all visitors, the artwork is both joyful and thought-provoking. Responding directly to the architecture of the Museum, City Hall and the Brisbane cityscape, Kire’s design reveals unexpected connections between the built environment and abstract form. Follow the mermaid in the bay. Dive into story, culture and hands-on creativity with our latest Artist in Residence, Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins. Journey alongside Delvene to the shores of Minjerribah and discover the ancestral story of Warrajamba, the mermaid, a living cultural legacy that Delvene continues to explore as she searches for its lost ending. Get hands-on and create your own mermaid or dugong using artist-designed stamps, connecting with the stories of Warrajamba and Yungong, the dugong. Discover Delvene’s powerful sculptural work made from materials gathered from Country - yungair/yungaire (freshwater reed), talwalpin (beach hibiscus cotton tree), and quampie shell. Clock Tower Tour
Discover the hidden secrets of your heritage-listed City Hall building with a guided tour of Brisbane’s iconic Clock Tower. The Clock Tower Tour is a “must do” while in Brisbane! For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Convict Brisbane Walking Tour
Explore Brisbane’s colonial history on this guided tour through the city’s convict past. Beginning at the historic Windmill on Wickham Terrace and winding down to the river at Queens Wharf, the tour traces Brisbane’s transformation between 1823 and 1842 - from a remote penal outpost to an emerging free town. Hear stories of convicts and commandants, revealing how punishment, labour and authority shaped daily life. Along the way, our guides bring the settlement into focus, illuminating the social fabric and living conditions, as well as the central role of the Brisbane River in sustaining the colony. Woven throughout the tour are First Peoples’ responses to British settlement, their enduring connection to Country, and the Frontier wars that directly followed this era. Together, these intersecting stories offer a deeper understanding of how Brisbane grew from its earliest foundations into a regional centre. Tour highlights include: The Windmill, The Brisbane Crest, The Petrie Tableau, Convict-built structures and surviving remnants, Miller Park and the Commissariat Stores, Queens Wharf and, the Brisbane River. This 90‑minute, 1.75km tour is designed to suit most fitness levels, however, please note it includes walking downhill along city streets and across uneven surfaces. Bands in Parks: Supper Dance and Swing
Bands in Parks performs at Souths Sports Club. Get ready for an evening of irresistible rhythm and vintage style as Sunnybank Brass and vocalist Izabella Cihajic brings the golden era of big band and swing to life. From smooth vocal numbers to full-throttle brass band swing, the music will capture the infectious spirit of the swing era, including the legendary crowd-please Sing, Sing, Sing. Adding to the atmosphere, the talented dancers from Swing Patrol will join the band, filling the floor with dazzling moves and vintage flair. Before the concert begins, audiences are invited to take part in a free swing dance class, making it easy for everyone - beginners and seasoned dancers alike - to step onto the dance floor and join the fun. Whether you come to dance, listen, or simply soak up the vibrant energy, this will be a joyful celebration of swing music, community, and rhythm. Maestro 4: Beethoven, Dvořák & Smetana
Two towering masterpieces, each with its own voice. Dvořák once doubted the cello’s power to lead an orchestra - until he composed a concerto that defied all expectations. Lyrical, radiant, and full of emotional depth, it is now widely regarded as the greatest ever piece written for the instrument. Cellist Ivan Karizna brings it to life with passion and precision, under the baton of Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici. Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 follows: a work Wagner once called “the apotheosis of the dance”. With rhythm as its driving force, this iconic symphony moves from the majestic nobility of its first movement to a finale of exhilarating power. Museum of Brisbane is excited to collaborate with Magpie Goose, a proudly Aboriginal owned and led fashion and social enterprise, to celebrate extraordinary First Nations cultural stories and designs. This exclusive to Brisbane exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Magpie Goose owners Amanda Hayman (Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon) and Troy Casey (Kamilaroi), offers a deep dive into the work of some of the region’s most talented First Nations artists and designers. Using clothing as a canvas for storytelling, this exciting collaboration will connect audiences with the rich and diverse cultural expressions of First Nations communities in Queensland and beyond. Bands in Parks: Rotary Family Fun Day
Bands in Parks performs at George Clayton Park. Join the local bayside community with the Rotary Club of Wynnum Manly and local bands including Bayside Brass and Wynnum High School band in a free day of music and entertainment. There will be free sausages, popcorn, fresh fruit and free activities for all ages that include the ever-popular baby animal farm, face painting, balloon twisting, tug of war, and much more.

The QUBE Effect Triffid Residency
Join this year’s The QUBE Effect finalists as part of their annual residency in The Triffid Garden with free live music each Sunday during June. These exciting 12 emerging local acts have been busy developing their skills, working with industry professionals and now you can see them live, onstage ahead of the release of their music videos, public voting for the People’s Choice Award in August and the Awards Night in October. We celebrate iconic tracks by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Phil Collins, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys, right through to current artists such as Ed Sheeran and Adele.
