Passport to the Universe
Get your passport for a thrilling journey through the Solar System, beneath the rings of Saturn, into the heart of the Orion Nebula, out of the Milky Way Galaxy and to the edge of the observable universe, returning home via a black hole. Narrated by Tom Hanks. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Passport to the Universe was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Major support for new version provided by the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco.

Collisions, both dazzling and destructive, release energy that drives the growth and evolution of the universe and shape our place within it. Produced by the American Museum of Natural History. Narrated by Robert Redford. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Cosmic Collisions was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science; GOTO INC, Tokyo, Japan; and the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum. Refracted (Voxalis Opera & Southern Cross Soloists)
Explore the chromaticism of humankind in this one-night-only performance featuring Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, reimagined for string quartet and voice, alongside Arvo Pärt’s unique chamber and vocal works, including Fratres, Spiegel im Spiegel, and My Heart’s in the Highlands. Featuring the “stars of Australian chamber music”, Queensland’s renowned lyric soprano Leanne Kenneally, and emerging mezzo-soprano Aylish Ryan, this concert celebrates artistic collaboration, showcasing both established talent and emerging brilliance. Mother's Day Volunteer Bushcare Working Bee - Brandon Road Bushcare Group
Bring your mum this Mother's day and join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects.The Brandon Road Bushcare Group meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month and welcome new volunteers. 7–9am in Summer, 7.30–9.30am during autumn and spring, and 8–10am in winter. Mobility for life
This class takes you through a variety of stretching and mobility exercises. Starting with a gentle warm-up you will be guided through both upper and lower body stretches and exercise to help mobilise joints and muscles. We finish with a full body relaxation, leaving you feeling rejuvenated for the rest of the day.

The Manly Creative Markets operates Every Sunday (except when Christmas Day is on a Sunday!) from 8am until 2pm, as an alternative retail outlet for local and regional creative talent, and is definitely not a flea market. You will find artisan wares, arts & crafts, plants, great coffee, entertainment, massage, fashion, pet items and so much more at the Manly Creative Markets in Little Bayside Park every Sunday. Mother's Day in the Park

On Sunday 11 May from 8am-1pm, you can spoil her with a stress-free celebration and enjoy quality time together as a family. Start your day by strolling through the lush parklands and soaking up the sounds of live music that will set the perfect tone for a serene morning. Tempt your taste buds with a range of brunch-inspired delights from an array of food trucks, offering delicious bites all morning. Whether you’re craving something sweet, savoury, or a little of both, there’s something for every palate. For the little ones, there’s no shortage of fun with entertaining kids’ activities that will keep them busy and happy, allowing Mum to relax and enjoy her special day. To make the occasion even more memorable, free flowers for Mum will be handed out (while supplies last). Gather the family, bring along a picnic blanket and enjoy a heart-warming and feel-good morning in the park. Understory by Rachel Apelt
Be drawn into a dialogue with nature through Rachel Apelt’s Understory. Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creeklines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creekline regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade. Understory is open now until 30 May 2025 at the Boondall Wetland Environment Centre. Open hours: Tuesday - Friday 9am - 4pm Saturday - Sunday 9am - 12pm

Dragonboating
Bookings essential. Have fun learning how to paddle in a 12m dragon boat and see the city from a different perspective. Paddle out of Breakfast Creek and onto the Brisbane river. Micro Museum
What will you collect? Welcome to Micro Museum – a space for telling stories through objects. You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own.

Bands in Parks: Mother's Day by the Bay
Bands in Parks performs at Little Bayside Park. Enjoy live music while you browse the market stalls. Performances by local school bands and community bands feature in the morning Mother’s Day markets. Furry friends are welcome so come down to the bayside and enjoy breakfast by the seashore. Don’t miss the Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band at 10am and Bayside Brass at 11:15am.

RQAS Exhibition: All Creatures and Wild Things
Royal Queensland Art Society Exhibition: All Creatures and Wild Things For this exhibition, artists were invited to consider our relationships with animals. Artworks can depict imagined, observed or experienced perceptions of the natural world, explore environmental and scientific themes, or investigate animals in folklore, symbology or the domestic realm. The exhibition will be on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery from Thursday, 17th April to Sunday, 11th May 2025. *Please note* gallery closed for the Easter long weekend (Apr 18-20th) and ANZAC Day (Apr 25th). Join a compost troubleshooting session with Environment Centre staff. Learn the basics of some home composting options and get help with your composting questions. Requirements: Please wear sun-safe clothing and fully enclosed shoes. Sunscreen recommended. Note: This event will go ahead in light rain. Free guided tour - Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha
Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size.
