Volunteer Bushcare Working Bee - Gertrude Petty Place Bushcare Group

Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects.

Step into Nature - Community walking group

Our new community walking group is a relaxed, social way to explore Brisbane’s beautiful parks and green spaces. Walking in a group is a safe and supportive way to explore bushland, especially for those who may be unfamiliar with the area or prefer not to walk alone. Along the way, you might pick up interesting facts about local flora, fauna, and history, while enjoying the many benefits of walking, from improved health, community connection, and time in nature. Requirements: Safety first! Please wear closed-in walking shoes, bring a water bottle, and dress in sun-protective clothing including a hat and sunscreen. Walks may include uneven terrain, uphill sections of the walk. Note: This walk may be cancelled if unsafe walking conditions arise on the day, including severe weather, extreme heat, or any other hazards that may impact participant safety.

Guided Walk of the Billai Dhagun Track

Join environment centre trail guides in a guided walk through the stunning Boondall Wetlands Reserve. Learn about the unique plants and animals of the wetlands on this gentle, easy, all abilities 2km walk. Participants can visit the Bird Hide, observe distinct changes in vegetation, and discover why Boondall Wetlands is an internationally important conservation area. Requirements:  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, secure and fully enclosed walking shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, and insect repellent.  Please bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Walks are subject to weather and environmental condition

Drop in anytime between 9am and 4pm and Join Agent Tree Frog on a self-guided digital adventure through Karawatha Forest designed especially for families. Through interactive challenges and location-based play, you explorers will uncover hidden discoveries and learn about Brisbane's unique forest habitats along the way. To get started, simply download the free Agents of Discovery app on a mobile phone or iPad before you arrive. The app is available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Requirements: Mission can be completed, at your own pace All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site.

Sherwood Arboretum guided walk

Sherwood Arboretum, established in 1925, is Brisbane’s only botanic garden dedicated exclusively to growing Australian native trees. The Arboretum holds scientific and cultural values with many of the original plantings undertaken by prominent citizens of Brisbane. The guided walk will be led by the Volunteer Guides of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha and the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum. Requirements: Wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Meeting point: Meet at the shelter adjacent to the main carpark off Jolimont Street, Sherwood. Age: Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.
