Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creeklines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creekline regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade. Understory is open now until 30 May 2025 at the Boondall Wetland Environment Centre. Open hours: Tuesday - Friday 9am - 4pm Saturday - Sunday 9am - 12pm

Guided walk of the Tulla-yugaipa Track (useful plants)
Join this informative guided walk around the gentle 100m Tulla-yugaipa dhagun Track. Meaning 'place of useful plants', this short track showcases plants used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and colonial peoples. A volunteer guide will lead you around the trail to identify some of the featured native plants and other wetlands resources and explain some traditional uses. After the walk, visitors can enjoy other nearby walking tracks, relax in the picnic area, and visit Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre. Requirements: All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear a wide-brimmed hat, secure and fully enclosed walking shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Please bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Walks are subject to weather and environmental conditions.

Bush Kindy
Bush Kindy is for children aged 3 - 5 years, alongside their parents and carers. Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy can go for up to 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes vary each week. On the day of the event: Please arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in with staff at the centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Please wear a hat, fully enclosed shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Please bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site. It is recommended to bring a spare change of clothes as sessions may include messy play. Note: This event will go ahead in light rain. Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Join us for a unique and inspiring one-hour workshop where you’ll explore your connection with plants through vibrant collages. Artist Rachel Apelt will lead you in creating imaginative interpretations of the diverse plant life found in the Boondall Wetlands. This workshop is designed to ignite your curiosity about the natural world, encouraging you to observe plants more closely and appreciate their lifecycles and seasonal changes. Through drawing, paper cutting and gluing, you'll bring your botanical visions to life. Arrive early to embark on a self-guided walk and let the plants that capture your attention be your inspiration for the workshop.
