You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own.

Crack the clues to discover the natural treasures hidden within the Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha. Work alone or in a group and explore the Botanic Gardens to solve this exciting treasure hunt. We have an activity suitable for ages 12 and under, with 2 age appropriate treasure hunt activities to choose from. Please bring a pencil or pen and wear a hat and enclosed shoes. Who drops a lot

Who drops a lot

Do plants feel the cold? Some trees seem to clutch their leaves tightly to them during the winter months and some like to drop them all and go naked. Come explore our Temperate Region Plants Garden during our Winter Hub school holiday activities and see ‘who drops a lot’. Collect fallen leaves, make leaf rubbings and tracings, sketch, colour and write about your favourite Autumn leaf. Explore leaf shape, colour and venation and take home a leafy journey stick of your winter fun. All materials provided. Requirements: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult. Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle. Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawn. Location: Meet at Temperate Garden. This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community dedicated to putting the plant back into Planet.

Urban Utilities - Water Stories Art Experience

Come and join us for a unique event for children aged 8 years and over! Have a yarn and learn traditional First Nations customs and painting techniques with Our Yarn (Ngalin Ayeye) at Urban Utilities Visual Art Water Stories Experience. This is an interactive and engaging painting workshop for children, led by Our Yarn, that raises awareness about the urban water cycle and its deep connection to First Nations culture, histories and stories. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the centre. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a hat, sun-smart clothing, fully enclosed walking shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This activity can be delivered indoors if required. Join Council's environment centres staff on a guided twilight walk through the beautiful tranquil surrounds of Karawatha Forest. Experience the forest at dusk, exploring 2.5km of peaceful bushland tracks. Moderate fitness required as the track has some climbs and steps. Requirements: Moderate fitness required as some tracks maybe be hilly and uneven. Arrive 15 minutes early to check-in. Please do not leave early unless it is an emergency. Wear fully enclosed shoes and bring a small torch (no headlamps), water, and insect repellent. Long sleeves and long pants recommended. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.Note:  Outdoor activities are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Meet some of our resident insects and other mini-beasts at a fun bug show, then test out your detective skills on a short walk investigating bugs and their habitats. What will we find living nearby? Join this one-of-a-kind school holiday activity to discover fascinating facts about bugs and other mini-beasts and find out why these amazing animals are nature’s superheroes!
