Experience the magic of storytime with your child during a First 5 Forever storytime session in the park at the Pop-up Library. This interactive session includes stories and songs for young children. Ideal for children from birth to five years and their parents or carers.First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government.Location: This session is held in Whale Park, near the Wynnum Jetty (around 137 Wynnum Esplanade). Pop into Anzac Square Memorial Galleries during the winter school holidays for a special storytime session for young children and their families.These special storytime sessions will take place inside the galleries from 10.30-11 am on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 21 June and 12 July, and include beloved children's books such as Anzac Ted by Belinda Landsberry and Yvon's Great Adventure by Peter Grose.Following each reading session, families are invited to stay and decorate a free bookmark inspired by the Australian Defence Force. All materials will be provided at the craft table in the Post-World War II gallery. Families who would just like to decorate a bookmark are welcome to visit the galleries anytime between 10 am and 4 pm, Sunday to Friday.Discussing war and commemoration with children can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming. Books can be a gentle and accessible way to introduce complex topics without being too frightening for young readers. Gathering: Joe Geia Band
Gathering presents Joe Geia Band. Geia is a renowned singer/songwriter, guitarist, didgeridoo player and influential figure in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He writes music of bravery and beauty, telling of Aboriginal life in Australia, of the quest for justice and belonging, of history, family and love. "I want to promote change and understanding, melodically and harmoniously," he says, "while still sharing the little known aspects of Aboriginal history". As the writer of renowned songs such as Yil Lull and Uncle Willie he remains an active recording and performing artist sharing his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through music. Join us at the mainstage of Queen Street Mall for a special performance by the Joe Geia Band on Wednesday 8 July between 12 noon and 1pm.This Gathering event is produced by Cre8tive Nations.
