What will you collect? Welcome to Micro Museum – a space for telling stories through objects. You are invited to explore the fascinating world of collecting, and uncover the memories that objects hold. Inspired by major exhibition Precious in this space you are the curator. You can select, sort and arrange a wide array of items, many of which are second-hand or vintage. Each object holds memories, and now you can create your own.

Botanical treasure hunt

Crack the clues to discover the natural treasures hidden within the Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha. Work alone or in a group and explore the Botanic Gardens to solve this exciting treasure hunt. We have an activity suitable for ages 12 and under, with 2 age appropriate treasure hunt activities to choose from. Please bring a pencil or pen and wear a hat and enclosed shoes. This is a self-guided activity as you wander the botanic gardens. Collect your treasure hunt flyer from the Visitor Information Centre.

Meet wildlife neighbours

Meet wildlife neighbours

Native wildlife live all around us - from our backyards, to local parks and nature reserves. But have you had a chance to meet them up close? Join our wildlife expert as they introduce you to amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds. Learn more about these unique Australian animals and how you can help your wildlife neighbours. Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes before starting time to check in. All children must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing and sunscreen as some shows may take place outside. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Note: Events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.

Earth Kids Winter School Holiday Program

Earth Kids Winter School Holiday Program

Earth Kids runs from Tuesday to Thursday, 9am to 3pm daily (drop off from 8.30 am and pick up until 3.15 pm). For children aged 6 to 12, the Earth Kids program aims to empower participants to become 'nature smart,' equipping them with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to actively build a better world for all living beings. Through observation, guided questioning, and hands-on activities, children learn about the Farm's animals and plants, explore Indigenous culture, experiment with eco arts, develop bushcraft skills, and apply Permaculture principles. The activities differ according to the season and may include: Gardening – planting, harvesting, composting, and learning about bush foods and seasonal changes. Bushcraft - building shelters, navigation and knife skills, making string and fire. Ecoarts – creativity using natural, recycled, or repurposed materials. Indigenous understanding – storytelling, and cultural sharing. Earth connection – 'magic spots’, mapping, wandering, and other activities to support awareness, and understanding of ecosystems and their relationship.

Little Explorers: Yoga for kids

Little Explorers: Yoga for kids

Join a family-friendly yoga session for beginners aged 5 years and up. Play, stretch, and move while soaking up the natural beauty of the bushland setting. Participants can do what they can and go at their own pace. Please bring a yoga mat per participant (you may bring a towel, but a mat is preferred). After the session, visit the environment centre or continue relaxing in nature by exploring nearby walking tracks in the reserve. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre. Please bring a yoga mat per participant (you may bring a towel, but a mat is preferred). Wear sun-safe clothing, enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. Who drops a lot

Do plants feel the cold? Some trees seem to clutch their leaves tightly to them during the winter months and some like to drop them all and go naked. Come explore our Temperate Region Plants Garden during our Winter Hub school holiday activities and see ‘who drops a lot’. Collect fallen leaves, make leaf rubbings and tracings, sketch, colour and write about your favourite Autumn leaf. Explore leaf shape, colour and venation and take home a leafy journey stick of your winter fun. All materials provided. Requirements: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult. Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle. Bring a picnic blanket and lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawn. Location: Meet at Temperate Garden. This workshop supports the Botanic Gardens' commitment to creating a plant loving community dedicated to putting the plant back into Planet.
