About This Event

Brisbane City Council’s Outdoor Gallery transforms Brisbane’s laneways into imaginative, curious, and engaging spaces. Comprising of light boxes, banner, vitrines and evening projections. This artwork ‘Voices’ by Sebastian Moody is part of Council’s Digital Art in the Collection. Brisbane City Council ‘s Public Art Collection features more than 200 artworks by local, national and internationally renowned artists. This diverse collection comprises artworks in a range of media from traditional bronze sculptures through to contemporary time-based art. About the artist: Sebastian Moody Born in Sydney, Australia, Sebastian Moody currently lives and works in Brisbane, where he completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts at QUT (2001) and a Master of Museum Studies at The University of Queensland (2009). Equal parts gravitas and humour, his language driven works continue in the art history traditions of 1960’s conceptual art and concrete poetry. Moody’s artworks draw on the connotations of words when they are placed in certain configurations. His work incites intellectual and emotional reactions, confounds our comparisons, and effects our understanding when a specific word is accompanied by another. Moody prompts us to consider both what we think and why, and in what sequence. About the artwork: ‘Voices’ ‘Voices’ is a bold digital artwork of kinetic typography intended to create moments of contemplation as a large-scale projection and as a stand alone video work. Somewhere between a list and poem, Voices is composed solely of six letter words drawn from my continually growing database of some 180+ words. Voices continues my interest in text art, concrete poetry, minimalism, and how language is used to create and share meaning. Words were selected that could function as both nouns, verbs, adjectives as well as words related to politics, poetics, and the artist's experience of living in Brisbane. Sebastian Moody: Voices, 2022 Projected kinetic typography (developed in collaboration with Sai Karlen), 35mins, 2 seconds Font: Optician Sans - a contemporary adaptation of the Snellen eye chart. Location: Howard Smith Wharves Art Projection (see location on Google maps).
