Ready to ride where you want to go by bike? This essential workshop will focus on how to ride on the road and will include learning how to ensure you see and can be seen. Our experienced instructors will observe you putting your new skills into practice. They will also provide useful tips on riding to where you want to go, including choosing suitable routes.Presented as part of Council's Cycling Brisbane program.
Family Ride
A fun, social ride (up to 5km) perfect for young families and grandparents. Full of adventure, rest stops, and shared discoveries along the way! Talk to a Planner sessions help residents, business owners, community groups and industry professionals understand Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) and how it relates to their building and construction plans.Talk to a Planner is available all year round, with additional sessions held regularly across the city for your convenience.During these free sessions you can speak face-to-face with a planning specialist, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about how City Plan relates to your property.Council also has a team of dedicated officers who can answer simple questions about your development application over the phone during business hours (9am-4pm, Monday-Friday). Platypus Library Talk with Dr Tamielle Brunt
Join us for a free talk with platypus expert Dr Tamielle Brunt as part of PlatyMonth this August.Dr Tamielle Brunt is an ecologist whose research focuses on platypus populations in southeast Queensland, working to understand their populations and raise their conservation profile. She is also the Projects Coordinator at Wildlife Queensland, where for more than a decade she has led the regional environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring program, collaborating with communities and stakeholders to track local platypus populations.Through her research, advocacy, and on-ground conservation work, Tamielle aims to strengthen protection for this iconic species and the freshwater ecosystems they depend on across Queensland.In her talk, Tamielle will dive into every aspect of the platypus - from their ecology and behaviour to the conservation efforts underway locally and statewide.Note: Arrive ten minutes early to check in and confirm your attendance.

Science Week: How plants survive and adapt in Karawatha Forest
Join us at Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre this Science Week for a fascinating talk exploring the remarkable plant life of Karawatha Forest. Home to over 320 plant species, this unique area contains some of the last remaining wet heathlands and melaleuca wetlands in Brisbane.Discover how local plant species thrive in tough conditions like heat, drought and nutrient-poor soils, and uncover the hidden genetic adaptations that allow them to survive and flourish. Hear from a University of Queensland researcher as they reveal the science behind these resilient plants and why understanding them is key to protecting our unique natural areas.The session includes a 45 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute Q&A.Presented by The University of Queensland.About the scientist: Kath McLay is a PhD researcher at The University of Queensland. Her research explores how species adapt to survive in harsh environments, with a focus on the genetic changes that allow native plants to grow and thrive. By understanding how plants respond to environmental pressures, her work supports biodiversity conservation and climate resilience in Australia.Requirements:Arrive minimum 10 minutes early to check in with staff at the centre.Meeting point: Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre.Parking and facilities: Free public carparking.
