About This Event
Join us at Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre where you'll learn about the vital role of native pollinators, how you can help, and each family can build their very own solitary bee habitat to take home. These mini sanctuaries provide safe nesting spaces for solitary bees, which are essential for pollinating our gardens and local ecosystems. What to Expect: A fun and engaging introduction to native bees and why they matter. Step-by-step guidance to build your own bee habitat using natural and recycled materials. Tips on where and how to place your bee habitat for the best results. Why It Matters: South East Queensland is home to a wide variety of native bee species, all of which are under threat due to habitat loss and chemical use. By building a bee hotel, you're actively supporting biodiversity, and creating a more pollinator-friendly environment in your yard or balcony.
Requirements: Arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the centre with staff. All children must be supervised by an adult who is also booked into the event. All participants must wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed shoes (no thongs or open shoes please), and bring insect repellent. Bring water and a snack if required as there are no food outlets on site.Note: This event will go ahead in light rain. Outdoor events are subject to weather and environmental conditions and may be cancelled on the day.
