Join other like-minded volunteers to help protect and restore Brisbane’s unique biodiversity through our Habitat Brisbane program. Whatever your skill level and motivation, joining your local Habitat Brisbane group is a great way to connect to nature and be active and healthy, all while meeting new people, developing new skills and making a difference to your local environment. With 160 groups across the city there’s bound to be one near you! Habitat Brisbane volunteers undertake a variety of activities including: managing environmental weeds revegetating with local native plants creating habitat for native wildlife citizen science projects. Location: The first bend in the Enoggera Creek Bikeway off Quandong Street, behind 1 Quandong Street, Ashgrove.

Clock Tower Tour
Discover the hidden secrets of your heritage-listed City Hall building with a guided tour of Brisbane’s iconic Clock Tower. The Clock Tower Tour is a “must do” while in Brisbane! For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. Keeping the peace: a history of Australian peacekeeping
Join us on National Peacekeepers Day for a free talk examining Australia’s proud record of involvement in peacekeeping missions. On 14 September each year, we observe National Peacekeeper’s Day, held on the anniversary of the day Australia became the world's first peacekeepers to deploy into the field, in the Netherlands East Indies (now Indonesia) in 1947. Since then, Australians have served in peacekeeping roles in locations around the globe, from the Middle East to Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and many more. More than 66,000 Australian men and women have contributed to 50 United Nations and other multilateral peace operations. This talk will be presented by special guest speaker Joe Cazey, who served as a United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) while a member of the Australian Defence Force. He will describe the differences between the types of peacekeeping, peacemaking and observer operations, including some day-to-day views on what it is like to be a part of such operations. With an international situation as potentially volatile as we live in today, peacekeeping may make the difference to avoid the outbreak of more serious conflict. Joe will bring to life what these missions are about, so we are better able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of these operations. After the talk, visitors can stay to explore the Memorial Galleries, embarking on an interactive journey from the First World War to today, before taking time to reflect on the remarkable stories of bravery and sacrifice in the tranquil parklands. Location: Anzac Square Memorial Galleries is located at 285 Ann Street, Brisbane. Entry is through the brass doors located beneath the Shrine of Remembrance.

Complimentary refreshments. About Brisbane Biodiversity Seminars: This series presents guest speakers on the city's unique plant and animal species and other environmental topics. Brisbane City Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean, green and sustainable, and values your help in protecting more than 2500 plant and animal species that make Brisbane the most biodiverse capital city in Australia. Guest speakers: Professor Catherine Pickering, Griffith University, Gold Coast - Professor Pickering will discuss how growing native plants benefits the environment and increases biodiversity in our gardens and backyards. Fflur Collier, Wildlife Conservation Partnerships Officer, Brisbane City Council - Fflur will talk about native bees, habitat plants, accommodating bees in your garden, and the national Australian Pollinator Count. Michael Fox, Project Director, Pollinator Link - Michael will be speaking about the Rewilding Mt Gravatt showgrounds project and showcase his book ‘Plant Local to Attract Local’, co-written with Ann Moran.

Magic Globe: A Story of the Seasons is an animated adventure that is perfect for engaging children from 5 to 12 years old. On vacation at her grandpa’s, a little girl named Mia accidentally discovers a mysterious piece of astronomical machinery. Edmund, Mia’s eccentric uncle, tricks the girl into using the tool’s secret powers to change the world’s seasons. She realizes the consequences of what they are going to do, but Edmund doesn’t want to let the plan go... Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky.
Free guided tour - Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha
Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size. Meeting point: Meet at the Mt Coot-tha Visitor Information Centre. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.

This dazzling space show launches visitors through space and time to experience the life and death of the stars in our night sky, including our own nurturing Sun. Tour familiar stellar formations, explore new celestial mysteries, and discover the fascinating, unfolding story that connects us all to the stars. Those who come along for the journey may never see the night sky in the same way again. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Journey to the Stars was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco; GOTO INC, Tokyo, Japan; Papalote • Museo del Niño, Mexico City, Mexico; and Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C. Whether you're walking, wheeling, or rolling, make your way into the closed-road section between Vulture St and Jane St, where quirky races and relays await. The race starts at Vulture St and winds down to The Lizard, marked by a giant metal truss overhead. And the best part? Anyone can join in!
