Lord Mayor's City Hall Concerts presents Sunday Nights at the Prim. People vividly remember Peter Hackworth’s first café, The Primitif – the Italian coffee, the modernist décor, the French chef who made the best toasted sandwiches, and the jazz. From the day it opened in March 1957 The Prim was a vibrant scene that flourished when the rest of Queen Street closed down. Peter, an inspired hostess, brought together musicians from Latvia, London, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane’s own West End, and these exciting gigs were captured in velvety black and white by Peter’s cook, Kevin Anderson. Singer Leah Cotterell has revealed Brisbane’s secret history of modern jazz in Kevin’s photographs. For her 2022 State Library Fellowship, she identified and interviewed musicians from The Prim, sharing their stories in blogs and in sweet and salty original songs. With her swinging vibes trio and a wonderful slideshow, Leah will again joyfully summon the spirit of Sunday nights at Brisbane’s first hip café, The Primitif. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Free guided tour - City Botanic Gardens
Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at the City Botanic Gardens. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. The walks are taken at a gentle pace for about one hour. Walking tours for individuals or small groups (no more than ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size. Location: Meet at the City Botanic Gardens Information Kiosk (next to the Queensland University of Technology’s Main Drive pathway). Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.
Craig & Karl: Double Vision
Craig & Karl: Double Vision is a dynamic, playful exploration of one of Queensland's most internationally successful creative exports. Employing Craig & Karl’s signature visual language, defined by bold colour, graphic precision, and infectious joy, the exhibition explores the artists’ three-decade-long creative partnership, their influence on global public art and design trends, and the enduring impact of Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art & Design, where the artists first met almost 30 years ago. Community Immunisation Clinic - Wynnum
Brisbane City Council provides free vaccinations to eligible residents (aged from 6 weeks and above) through our community immunisation clinics. Immunisation helps protect people against diseases such as influenza, measles, whooping cough, polio and tetanus. Take a look at the National Health Medical Research Council vaccination schedule for advice about when you should be vaccinated. Providing a free immunisation service is another way Council is helping deliver our Brisbane Vision.
