Pop into Anzac Square Memorial Galleries during the winter school holidays for a special storytime session for young children and their families.These special storytime sessions will take place inside the galleries from 10.30-11 am on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 21 June and 12 July, and include beloved children's books such as Anzac Ted by Belinda Landsberry and Yvon's Great Adventure by Peter Grose.Following each reading session, families are invited to stay and decorate a free bookmark inspired by the Australian Defence Force. All materials will be provided at the craft table in the Post-World War II gallery. Families who would just like to decorate a bookmark are welcome to visit the galleries anytime between 10 am and 4 pm, Sunday to Friday.Discussing war and commemoration with children can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming. Books can be a gentle and accessible way to introduce complex topics without being too frightening for young readers. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane's Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors.Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Bulkaway Muruku (Yarn Together) is a grounding and connected NAIDOC Week showcase of story, song and interactive experiences.Presented by Cre8tive Nations and Brisbane City Council, in support with Creative Bama Connections and Brisbane Powerhouse, this immersive yarning experience (featuring the Kuku Yalanji story Kuyu Kuyu Wanjabu) invites audiences to step into the story - '97moving, responding, and working together to help return a lost fish safely back to family.This full-circle yarn transports audiences to the Great Barrier Reef on Kubirri (Mossman) Country, where rainforest meets reef, and where connection to place, story, and kinship comes alive through shared experience at The Underground Theatre.
NAIDOC Week: Virtual Binkinba
Join us this school holiday at Brisbane Powerhouse for Virtual Binkinba on Sunday 5 July.Developed by creative technologist Brett Leavy (Bilbie XR Labs & Virtual Songlines), this immersive digital heritage project offers a unique look at the pre-colonial landscape of the Brisbane River and New Farm area. The one-day exclusive experience highlights First Nations technology and navigation, diverse flora and fauna, and significant sites such as the traditional camps near Newstead House and Barrambin (Victoria Park). Virtual Binkinba is proudly presented by Cre8tive Nations and Brisbane City Council, in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse and the Queensland University of Technology.Tickets are available on a "Pay What You Can" basis. While the suggested price is $30, you are welcome to pay more to support our artists or less if you are on a budget. All are welcome to attend.
