Bands in Parks performs at Old Government House. Join us for a captivating morning as the strings take centre stage at Old Government House. Enjoy performances by the Hillbrook String Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, and String Quartet, featuring a vibrant mix of classical favourites and contemporary works. The program embraces the emotional sweep of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, with its powerful journey from darkness to triumph, alongside the fiery brilliance of Vivaldi’s Summer from The Four Seasons and the timeless beauty of Greensleeves. The concert also highlights the evocative colours of contemporary string writing and the distinctive sounds of the guitar ensemble, with works spanning the rhythmic pulse of Kenengiser’s Mbira, the vast open landscapes of Levesque’s Onk Akimel Landscape, and the playful energy of Fimbel’s Lou’Ping. For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Whilst the view has changed significantly over the last 90 years, the time-honoured tradition of “taking a trip up the tower” happily continues at Museum of Brisbane. The Clock Tower Tour includes a ride in one of Brisbane’s oldest working cage lifts, a look behind Australia’s largest analogue clock faces and time to explore the observation platform that shares a unique perspective of your city. Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size. Meeting point: Meet at the Mt Coot-tha Visitor Information Centre. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.

Bands in Parks performs at Dr Valentine McDowall Park. Join BSB Swing for a session of of great soulful and swing tunes. From Stevie Wonder to Nat King Cole, Bruno Mars to Duke Ellington, there's sure to be a tune you can't help but tap your feet to and bump away the winter chills. Grab the picnic rug and your dancing shoes or your skates and we'll see you in the park! There will be a sausage sizzle in the park, so lunch is sorted.
Tycho Goes to Mars
Our favourite cheeky dog is blasting off to discover the red planet, Mars. Tycho is in search of water to fly his steam-powered space kennel back home. But how will he find water on Mars? Produced by Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks, Museums Victoria. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky.
Bands in Parks: Tutus and Tiaras
Bands in Parks performs at Brisbane Botanic Gardens. Put on your best tutu or dance costume and join us for some fun in the botanic gardens from 9am. There will be tiara and bracelet making, dancing sessions with the Queensland Ballet and after that, South East Queensland Symphonic Winds invite you to join them for a concert at the bandstand, where the little dancer in your family can dance to their joyful music. There will be music from Enchanted, Frozen, Theme from the Nutcracker and Lord of the Dance.

Narrated by Pedro Pascal, Encounters in the Milky Way is a time-traveling journey about the cosmic movements that shape our galactic neighborhood. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Encounters in the Milky Way was developed by the American Museum of Natural History (amnh.org) with the major support and partnership of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
