About This Event
Plants produce various aromatic compounds, essential for interacting with pollinators and herbivores, while also stimulating our senses of taste and smell. On this walk, we’ll explore plants responsible for popular flavours like vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. We’ll discuss the journey from plant to industrial product and how these goods reach consumers. A portion of the walk will be spent in the Kitchen Garden, where we’ll uncover interesting details about fruits and vegetables. This experience offers a deeper understanding of the plants that influence our everyday flavours and food products. Requirements: This walk involves a very leisurely pace, walking short distances, frequent stops as needed, no or only minimal stairs, mainly flat ground. This walk is suitable for individuals who use either walkers or wheelchairs. Please wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Meeting point: Meet at the Visitor Information Centre. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.

Children’s storytime in the park - Dorrington Park, Ashgrove
Experience the magic of storytime with your child during a First 5 Forever storytime session in the park at the Pop-up Library. This interactive session includes stories and songs for young children. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. Walking tours for individuals and small groups (up to ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size. Meeting point: Meet at the Mt Coot-tha Visitor Information Centre. Note: Walks may be subject to environmental conditions and guide capacity on the day.

Take a free volunteer guided walk to learn about the plants and features at the City Botanic Gardens. Our volunteer guides all have a love for Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens and a desire to share their passion and knowledge with visitors. The walks are taken at a gentle pace for about one hour. Walking tours for individuals or small groups (no more than ten people) are free and do not require a booking. Have a larger group? Find out more about booking walks for groups 10 or more in size. Location: Meet at the City Botanic Gardens Information Kiosk (next to the Queensland University of Technology’s Main Drive pathway). Community Immunisation Clinic - Upper Mount Gravatt
