Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Usher in the new year with a kaleidoscope of colour at the Lord Mayor’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks. Held at South Bank Parklands on Tuesday 31 December 2024, the evening features two free spectacular fireworks shows – one at 7.45pm for families and one at midnight for late-night revellers welcoming in the New Year in style. The best viewing locations at South Bank include the Clem Jones Promenade, the Cultural Forecourt, Riverside Green and River Quay. South Bank Parklands retailers will be open during the day with takeaway food also available from pop-up food and beverage vendors on the Cultural Forecourt. You are also welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the parklands. Event safety South Bank Parklands will be an alcohol-free site on the day, except for those dining in a restaurant or licensed premises, which abides by the usual liquor licensing rules. Prohibited items include metal cutlery and other sharp items, drink bottles and unsealed lids (including bottles of water or soft drink), scooters, bikes, pets, glass, marquees and any large portable structures. Getting there Public transport is the best way to travel to South Bank Parklands for the fireworks. Use Translink’s Journey Planner to plan ahead. Planned road closures There will also be road closures in and around the South Bank Parklands precinct, South Brisbane and Brisbane City. These are subject to change if required to maintain event safety. Road closure information will be shared on Council's newsroom once it has been finalised. Soundtrack If you’re watching the fireworks offsite from South Bank, make sure you enhance your experience by downloading the free Cinewav app before December 31. It allows you to play the official fireworks soundtrack, in real time. Please note that there is no requirement to have the app at South Bank, as the soundtrack will be played via speakers on ground.

Plus, enjoy our Scavenger hunt and cozy Reading room for the perfect blend of exploration and relaxation. Join us from Wednesday 8 January for an exciting series of immersive workshops. Celebrate First Nations culture in our free Cultural Collaborations sessions, where we explore new creative mediums each day. Let your nose become your paint brush at our inclusive disability-led Sniffing colours activity and pull apart old electronics to make beautiful sculptures at our Transforming e-waste workshops. Be sure to visit e-Galaxy, a free interactive public art experience that will inspire you to think about the impact of technology on the natural world. Please note: The State Library of Queensland will be closed on 25 and 26 December but open all other days across the festive season.
