About This Event
Start your Friday with a touch of classical brilliance with this Morning Masterworks concert and discover the dazzling possibilities of the trombone. British composer Gavin Higgins places the trombone centre stage with an imaginative concerto, inspired by a recently unearthed 16th-century manuscript brimming with fantastical imagery and celestial visions. From soaring comets to mysterious beasts, these vivid scenes are brought to life by one of the world’s finest trombonists, Jörgen van Rijen. Guest Conductor Riccardo Minasi then takes Queensland Symphony Orchestra on a sonic journey with Richard Strauss' Aus Italien (4th movement). The program also includes a rare treat: Respighi’s Trittico Botticelliano, a luminous evocation of Botticelli’s artistry. Travel through soundscapes shaped by history, culture, and imagination. Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.

For many years, City Hall’s Clock Tower elevated the building to Brisbane’s tallest, offering visitors a magnificent 360 degree view of the city around them. Children will love this tour of the Solar System through the eyes of a family of aliens on vacation from another star system. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. This show contains some sudden sound effects, fast moving scenes and flashing light sequences.
Children’s storytime in the park - Frew Park, Milton
Experience the magic of storytime with your child during a First 5 Forever storytime session in the park at the Pop-up Library. This interactive session includes stories and songs for young children. Ideal for children from birth to five years and their parents or carers. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Get your passport for a thrilling journey through the Solar System, out of the Milky Way Galaxy and to the edge of the observable universe, returning home via a black hole. Narrated by Tom Hanks. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Passport to the Universe was developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Major support for new version provided by the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco.

Narrated by Pedro Pascal, Encounters in the Milky Way is a time-traveling journey about the cosmic movements that shape our galactic neighborhood. Session concludes with a virtual tour of the Brisbane night sky. Encounters in the Milky Way was developed by the American Museum of Natural History (amnh.org) with the major support and partnership of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
